Summer reading list
What are you hoping to
read this summer? We posed this question to the Century staff, a group of people with diverse tastes
and interests. Along with commenting on our choices, feel free to post your own
in the comments. --Ed.
A Discovery of Witches, by
Deborah Harkness. I'm a fan of the Twilight series and early Anne Rice. This
promises to be a good read in the same vein. For some reason, the title brings
to mind a murder
of crows.
Dead Reckoning, by
Charlaine Harris. The 11th Sookie Stackhouse book. The first ten were just so
much fun.
Generation Kill: Devil
Dogs, Iceman, Captain America, and the New Face of American War, by Evan
Wright. Watching the HBO miniseries, I was fascinated by this view from the
ground of events that are otherwise just NPR sound bites in my world, but I
didn't understand all of it. Hopefully the book will fill in the gaps.
The Outlander series, by
Diana Gabaldon. A friend confesses that she became hooked on this lengthy
series. Her sheepishness and her use of the word "hooked" makes me think these might be a really good time.
And lined up on my Nook
now:
- The Next Queen of Heaven, by
Gregory Maguire
- A Widow for One Year, by John
Irving
- Bloodroot, by Amy Greene
