Gig #102

Coffee + Chords & Comedy! : Vol. 12

Today at 2:30 PM – 8 PM

Grind 22 [No. 22, Lorong Maarof, 59000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia]

The first instalment of Coffee + Chords at Grind 22 for 2017 adds on an extra kick from some fine indie comedians. (We’re just adding the “indie” label because it legitimises everything.)

On the dais for the day is:

• 3:00PM Sia Nicholas
• 3:30PM Tan Soon Tiong Music
• 4:00PM Shaneil Devaser of The Endleaves
• 4:30PM: Qhotakmusica
• 5:00PM: Michelle Augustin Barbour, Riezman Radzlan, Harresh A.u, Abdul Raqib Karim, Aiman Azri, Nat Kang
• 6:00PM: DANI
• 6:30PM: The Propositions
• 7:00PM: Priscillia Xavier
• 7:30PM: 2storeyheart

I can’t remember the last time I performed alongside stand up comedians, this should be a fun one! Drop by if you’ve got nothing to do this afternoon/evening!

Also, my first show of 2017!

Gig #101

***SHANEIL DEVASER***

Shaneil Devaser, born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on April 20th, 1988, raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, plays his guitar and sings tunes that come from the heart of a madman, lover and best-friend. Notorious for his slightly-odd behavior, autistic-like attitudes, half-construed sentences and ever-misguided truths, he often dives into a foray of lateral-thoughts and misguided-chords with an SM58 microphone and his Epiphone AJ-100CE fitted with an L.R. Baggs M1A pickup.

Gig #100: Milestones

These year, and few weeks in particular have been a rollercoaster. Time sure flies when you’re busy and I’ve been busy as hell.

Countless insect bites line my arms and legs – battle scars of a battle about to begin. In a couple of weeks, I’ll be in Indonesia again for the upcoming Big Bad Wolf Book Sale in Surabaya.

On the side, I’ve also been busy helping out with the purchasing of books for our future sales (in case you’re wondering what I do at work or when I’m traveling, it’s what I usually do at work). Oh yeah, and I crossed the one year mark last week as well.

Over the weekend, Milin and I celebrated our upcoming second year anniversary.

This year I started exploring new ways to create music. I’ve been dabbling with some electronic shiz on my PC, phone and tablet. I’m terrible and have nothing of value to share, but keep your ears peeled for some chillstep (I kid) tunes in the future. I’m gonna pick up a MIDI controller soon and learn me some piano. Also, I decided that I should learn how to play lead guitar so I’ve also started that. In the meantime you can still expect to hear my emo, crybaby acoustic songs at gigs.

Which brings me to this Thursday night – I’ll also be playing my hundredth gig. Yes, that’s right. And if you’re wondering how I know, it’s because I have been chronicling it on my blog.

I’m not going to do anything fancy or whatever, I’m just playing an open mic slot for a show my charismatic and foul-mouthed friend, Ian Tai is headlining <3 It'll also be the first time I'll be playing the same show as Ferhan's younger brother, Luqman. He’s like part of the next generation of Malaysian Youtubers, follow him for some lit content fam.

Eyebrow-raising solo 5-chord powerhouse singalongs about the fluff of life, delivered by a chubby Chinaman with a Fu Manchu-contestable beard.

Gig #95 – Welcome to 2016

Woot, 2 weeks into the new year and I’ve got a show. Pretty psyched as this week’s Barlai Open Mic has been fully reserved (opposed to the one on Xmas eve where it was just a 2-man show haha).

Today – this photograph popped up on my Facebook feed, and I was surprised at the date: 6 years ago. I looked up my old blog post for my first ever performance and realized that it has been 9 years since I started performing as 2storeyheart :O Damn, how time flies! In my mind, I keep thinking that I’ve only been doing it for 3 years…

Well, there’s really not much to say except that I’m an old fart in this ‘scene’ and I’m looking forward to this week’s gig. Hope to see some old and new faces – it should be a blast!

Around the track they drove/ Gig #92

You should listen to this song before you read this post:

Ray Peterson – Tell Laura I Love Her

In today’s installment of ‘Songs you didn’t know were sad’, we have the famous song from the 60s – Tell Laura I Love Her. If any of you were like me and never paid attention to the song when you first heard it, you probably brushed it off as just another a cheesy love song. I can’t remember when it was when I paid attention to the words Ray Peterson was singing but when I did I realized how sad and depressing it was.
