Held at the cozy neighborhood cafe in Bandar Utama, Paradox Art Cafe has been the hub for new musicians to mingle.

RAWR!!! The Gig started out as a live acoustic music series where punk bands were encouraged to revamp themselves for an acoustic set.

However, seeing the need for all sorts of genres of music to be heard, the concept has evolved to what it is today which is – a platform for any musician to showcase their original music (or covers).

Some may not have the opportunity so here I am creating one for YOU!

If you or a friend would love to showcase your music, this is the place for you! Get in touch with me and I will give you a slot. This is a platform of discovery and I’d like you to be a part of it!

1. If you’re coming from SS2 on the LDP, turn LEFT to One Utama Old Wing (if you’re coming from Kepong or BSD, turn RIGHT under the flyover)

2. Go straight, and you will reach a traffic light where you turn RIGHT to One Utama New Wing. Make that RIGHT turn.

3. Go straight, and you will come to another set of traffic lights where if you turn right, you will head to One Utama New Wing’s Car Park. DON’T TURN RIGHT.

4. Right after the traffic light, take the FIRST LEFT.

5. After about 100 meters, you will see a lonely standalone row of shops that appears as if out of nowhere – that’s the Oasis Complex. Paradox is located on the First Floor, on the left, above the RIB Shop.

My slot should be at 10pm, and I get to play for 30 minutes – it’s been awhile since I’ve done a set that long, but I’m looking forward to it! Hope to see some familiar faces tonight, it’s going to be awesome. <3

I’ve been keeping busy with work – it’s the start of a new quarter, so there’s loads of things to plan for and do. I was confirmed last month, so yay – I can no longer quit so easily. Not like I’m planning to quit my job any time soon (haha).

In terms of life out of work, it’s been up and down – good and not so good, but that’s a tale for another day.

Well, I’m here to announce that I’m playing tomorrow (woot!) at Minut Init Studio Galleria (it’s an art gallery in Uptown PJ) for a friend’s fashion showcase. It’s going to be a half-hour set – and there’s also a dance performance (not by me, of course). I’ve never done anything like this before, so it should be an interesting experience! If you find the time, do drop by and come singalong!

I hope to see some familiar faces in the crowd! It’s been so long since my last performance – let’s hope I don’t screw up majorly.

And this year – I want to record my second EP. Yes, that’s right. You heard me. New studio-quality 2storeyheart material! I haven’t set a date for that yet, but I’ll keep you guys updated.

And yes, this blog still needs a revamp, and I’m working on it.

Another year has flown by, and while I still haven’t done anything significant (like sew a shark onto my chest) or made an impact to society – I’ve made some substantial changes to my life.

I quit my blogging job to work in PR. Sure, my plan to become a teacher and leave the country didn’t work out – but hey, there’s always next time, right?

I’m still not married. A lot of people I know got married this year and no, I don’t feel the pressure to hop on the bandwagon but that doesn’t mean I haven’t thought about it (however ridiculous it may sound). I don’t have any specifics, but it should be awesome. The room will be filled with people I know and care about – not strangers who are there just to help cover costs (assuming they give angpaus haha).

The projector will probably be screening Dumbass the movie. Or an awesome animation like Paper Man. I’ll perform solo and with The Wishing. The fried rice will actually be good, and all the dishes will be served at once, so there’s more time for drinking and partying. It will start on time, and it will be in a convenient location. And the waiters, waitresses, and emcee will be dressed up as characters from Adventure Time. If I could afford it, I’d get Daniel Tosh and Louis CK to do stand up as well.

The soundtrack for the dinner will be lifted straight from my MP3 collection – which means we’ll all get to listen to Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday, Spitalfield, The Spill Canvas, and Light You Up. Hell, even Basshunter and The Medic Droid will be blasted through the speakers.

Anyway, I digress..but dinner is here and I’m starving.

Prior to Priority I had no experience in PR and I can say that it has changed my life. For better or for worse? I can’t say yet. All I know is that I have awesome colleagues who have made the whole learning process enjoyable and palatable. I learn something new almost every day, and while I may not be the best people person I know, I’m pretty sure I’m much better than who I was a month ago.

So George, you’re in PR now, what do you do? Well, the bulk of my job involves monitoring the media for what they say about my client, its competitors and the industry. Secondly, organizing events and inviting the media to them (which probably deserves a post of its own). I haven’t done a lot of writing yet, but I’m sure it won’t be that way for long.

Regardless, I’m enjoying myself in this strange new world that I have yet to conquer and I can’t wait to see what comes next. I know I’ve got a long way to go before I get where I want to be but until then, I’ll try to enjoy the journey.

Back to Japan: well, I haven’t done much today, except walk around a lot, just checking out the surrounding area. I’m currently here, which is like right next to the sea. I experienced the strong winds and light rain of the typhoon earlier today, it was epic. I could really feel myself being pushed in a direction by the wind. I’ve been eating nothing but noodles here (not complaining) and still haven’t found any amazing ramen yet. Hopefully I will by the end of the trip.

There are a lot of indoor smoking areas and surprisingly, cigarettes are cheaper than in Singapore (yay!). To summarize my day: midnight reached the airport. Stayed awake until I could catch the bus to the hotel at 5.40am. Reached the hotel and was told that I couldn’t check in just yet. Wandered around the empty streets, found an internet cafe and spent a few hours there. Had lunch. Came back to the hotel at 11, still couldn’t check in. Waited and fell asleep while waiting in the lounge area. Woke up at 2pm, checked into my room, unpacked, showered, slept. Woke up at 8, went out for dinner, came back to the hotel, and now I’m sitting in front of the computer. I’ve got an early day tomorrow, so I’ll be going to bed in awhile. I’m still tired from staying up the whole of yesterday as well, so I’ve got to sleep that off.

In the meantime, I’ll be uploading photographs to Instagram/Facebook (goodnewsgeorge) so you can keep track of my adventures and meals (lol) there if these text posts are too much for you. Til tomorrow, take care.

Not the same way that I thought I would be doing at the start of the year, but hey – I guess it’s better than nothing. I’m currently typing this post on a Japanese keyboard and man it is tough. I keep having to backspace every five seconds. The symbols are all over the place, not like conventional QWERTY keyboards, but hey it’s a minor gripe. I landed in Japan around midnight on Sunday, stayed awake until 5.40 to catch the bus to my hotel only to find out that I can only check in at 2pm. Seeing how it’s 7am on a Sunday right now and nothing is open, I decided to look for an internet cafe to write this out.

So far from what I’ve seen, Tokyo looks awesome. It’s like Singapore but a billion times bigger. Super clean streets, lovely buildings, people cycling everywhere and so on. I’m definitely having trouble communicating with the locals, but I guess it comes with the territory. Doesn’t help that I’m Chinese either, as everybody expects me to speak Japanese when I approach them. Haha. Anyway, I got a long way to go until I check in, and I’m tired as shit. So, I can’t really think of anything to write here at the moment except that I’m safe and sound and in Tokyo. I’ll blog more when I get into my hotel room, so I’ll just end the post here.

This is just a post to say that I’m still alive. Haven’t been blogging a lot lately due to my inability to put down into words what I feel or think about. Hell, even writing lyrics are a challenge now. I’d like to blame writer’s block, but that’s just a silly excuse IMO.

In other news, Yellowcard is coming to Singapore next month, and I’m stoked. Got my tickets for the show, I can’t wait! Watching them play Awakening live is so going to make my year. Man I love that song. But for those of you who haven’t heard it, it’s one of my favorite songs by them and one of my most listened to songs on my playlist right now. It’s so damn good, check it out:

Oh, and this blog needs a redesign. I think five years with the same header and theme is a bit too much. Any suggestions?
